Welcome to the new website of the B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network, a conservation and research program of the Vancouver Aquarium. Come in and take a look around!
Many species of whales, dolphins, porpoise and sea turtles in British Columbia’s waters are listed as at risk. You’ll find the latest information on threats to cetaceans and sea turtles, and simple actions you can do to help protect marine wildlife, including how to Be Whale Wise when you’re out on the water. You’ll also learn more about research and conservation efforts for cetaceans and sea turtles in B.C.
Have you seen a cetacean or sea turtle but aren’t sure which species it was? You’ll find tips on identifying species and natural history information for every species that may be encountered in B.C., from harbour porpoises to blue whales. Be sure to report your sightings to us, so that we can continue our efforts to help cetaceans and turtles.
We’ll be updating our News and Events sections often, and adding more content to our species pages, so check back regularly. And let us know what you think of our new site – we welcome your feedback.
