Ocean Wise and Eagle Wing Whale and Wildlife Tours announce an intimate and interactive evening with chef Ned Bell with proceeds going to support cetacean research in the Salish Sea.

Victoria, B.C. – On Tuesday, August 20, Ocean Wise and Eagle Wing Whale and Wildlife Watching Tours will host the first in a series of speaker events in support of Ocean Wise’s Marine Mammal Research Program (MMRP).

Held aboard Eagle Wing’s catamaran, the Victoria Harbour cruise will feature Ocean Wise Executive Chef Ned Bell leading a conversation on the state of sustainable seafood, our local southern resident killer whale population, and how we can affect positive change in our oceans with our daily food choices.  Guests will enjoy a menu of sustainable seafood and wine pairings inspired by Chef Ned Bell’s Lure cookbook.

The inaugural speaker event is the first in a series of events to raise awareness and funds for cetacean research in the Salish Sea and Ocean Wise’s new Southern Vancouver Island Cetacean Research Initiative (SVICRI) in Victoria, B.C.

“We all have a responsibility to care for our planet, one sustainable choice at a time,” said Eagle Wing owners Brett Soberg and Don Stewart. “The oceans are the life-blood of our planet and all that live within it need our care and support.  Eagle Wing is proud to be supporting Ocean Wise.”

Southern resident killer whales are majestic, iconic, and critical for the health of the Salish Sea ecosystem. Unfortunately, they are threatened with extinction due to lack of prey, underwater noise, physical disturbance, and environmental contaminants. Ocean Wise scientists work to understand and protect our local cetacean populations through innovative and cutting-edge research, conservation, and education initiatives. Last year, Ocean Wise established the SVICRI in Victoria, B.C. to provide on-site support in the effort to recover the endangered whales, and to conserve and protect all other local cetacean populations.

“This event is the first of its kind for the SVICRI and we are thrilled to be collaborating with Chef Ned Bell and Eagle Wing Whale and Wildlife Tours to bring this fun, delicious, and impactful evening to fruition,” said Sarah Patton, program lead for the SVICRI.  “We’re looking forward to sharing the beauty  — and discussing the fragility — of the Salish Sea’s ecosystem with the evening’s guests. This trip will not only delight the senses, it will equip everyone aboard with the tools and knowledge to make daily choices that support ocean conservation and the southern resident killer whale population.”

The Intimate and Interactive evening with Chef Ned Bell is $179 per person including a sustainable seafood menu and pairings. Click here to book.
